The Last Rays Of The Shortest Day.

For me, today is a memorable day for three reasons. Its the first day of my Christmas holidays, a whole two weeks off work, its my mams 74th birthday (happy birthday mam) and today is the shortest day of the year between sunrise and sunset. I had hoped to get up and out to shoot both events however the morning was a bit of a damp start, at least from the comfort of my bedroom window! The rain lasted on and off for most of the day until the cloud started to clear late afternoon giving the promise of a magnificent sunset.

Unfortunately it cleared a little too quick leaving predominately clear blue sky in its wake. Still, this meant I could get out and about for the sunset up at Copt Hill, a Neolithic round barrow originally known as Seven Sisters due to the 7 trees on its top however only 6 remain. I’m sure the shortest day of the year would have had meaning to the people who originally built the barrow around 4000 years ago.

It would have been nice if a few of those clouds had stuck around for the photo shoot but at least it has stopped raining!
